单位不一样，中国的常用单位是「个十百千万亿」，而英语使用的常用单位是「个、百、千、百万、十亿」。
比如 1800，英文里可以读成 eighteen-hundred（18百，使用了'百'作为单位），也可以读成 one thousand eight hundred（1千8百使用'千'和'百'作为单位）。

英语中其实是有"万"这个单词的！
这个词就是"myriad"，发音为/ˈmɪɹi.æd/。这个词是从古希腊语"myrias"演化过来的，其最初是作为名词，意思就是"ten thousand, 万"。随着英语国家计数习惯的演化，就像前面的朋友说的，慢慢变成了现在的"以千计数"的规则，这个词的常用意思也转化为了形容词，表示"数量很多，无法计数的"意思了。
不过这个词在正式的翻译文章中，仍然是用来解释中文，包括日语和韩语中表示"万"这个单位。比如说下面这句话：
"长城"在中国被称作"万里长城"。
